Street photography isn’t about patience

I truly believe the most meaningful moments in photography are not the ones you chase, they arrive on their own. They don’t require effort; they come from a vision shaped by curiosity and a love of life, a vision you refine every day by simply observing, with or without a camera.

Street photography isn’t about patience. It’s about staying open, and being quick enough to respond when something REAL happens in front of you. It’s not about perfection either. After all, everyday life has nothing to do with perfection. I think it’s the authenticity of a moment that triggers an emotional response, and that response is what pushes us, as street photographers, to try to capture it. We often miss it. But even when nothing ends up on the memory card, the moment still matters. It stays with you, and you walk away having learned something. When the moment does translate into a photograph, the feeling is amazing, you know the one ;) And the image carries that emotional metadata that will take you back to that moment for years to come.

A few weeks ago, as I was walking home one evening, this beautiful moment happened along my path. I paused to capture a few photos, exchanged a few words, and then continued on my way with a heart full of hope and joy.
