Kevin Fletcher is an internationally recognized cinematographer and photographer. His motion narrative projects include the independent feature “Selfless” and the short films “Autopsy” and “The Manual”, which have played in numerous film festivals garnering multiple awards, including Best Cinematography. His award-winning commercial projects include work for clients such as Netflix, Audi, Stella Artois, Nike, Old Spice and Adidas, to name just a few. His photo series “Avenue of Roses” was the 1st place winner in the 2020 LensCulture Street Photography awards. “Coupe du Monde”, a series shot in Paris, was selected as a 2019 LensCulture Street Photography awards finalist, and is currently avail for viewing in the drawers at Blue Sky Gallery in Portland, Oregon. In this Episode…

Valérie and guest co-host Patrick La Roque answer listener questions:

@shawnbrezny: Do you have any recommendations for how you get into a “creative flow” when out shooting on the streets or anywhere else? Sometimes when I’m out it takes a while to realize what I’m seeing, interpreting or even feeling. Just looking for any tips or inspirations that have worked for you or others in the past.

@Frenchy_Val: Un photographe (français) dit que pour s'améliorer, il faut se mettre à la composition disant aussi qu'on ne cadre pas d'instinct. Des conseils pour s'améliorer ? (A photographer she follows says that the only way to improve is to study composition thoroughly, that one doesn’t frame by instinct. Tips?)

IN THIS EPISODE…

Valérie shares a conversation with Lawrence Jackson, one of the official White House photographers during the Obama presidency and author of YES WE DID, Photos and behind the scenes stories celebrating our first African American President.

BIO

I’m a D.C. based photographer who covers news, events, editorial, portrait and lifestyle photography.

My career has taken me from the small town fairs of rural Virginia to meetings in the Oval Office of the White House and beyond.  I love that photography has the power to inform, inspire and evoke emotion- sometimes all three things happen in one picture.

There’s always a chance to capture something different when picking up a camera. Whether it’s through work assignment or just spending time with my family. Photography helps us to appreciate the moment so that it will resonate with us a little bit longer.
